The most prominent members of the John Chappell Natural Philosophy Society are the father and son team of Bob and David de Hilster. But according to them, their situation is more like that of a democrat who ends up being the president of the Republican Party. They claim that unlike most other members, they are not aetherists.
When inspected up closely, however, we find that the de Hilster’s have no idea what the aether is. Every definition since the days of the Greeks has it that the aether is merely a bunch of particles (the material that fills… the universe… aetherpermeated all throughout space, providing a medium through which light could travel).
As it turns out, that is in fact what the de Hilsters propose mediates gravity and magnetism: a bunch of discrete particles. And, of course, it is not surprising that they cannot rationally explain the mechanism of pull with their aether.
